The Of Thee I Sing Touring Company:

Mezzo Soprano Audrey Johnson has combined her vocal talents and experiences from her operatic performing career with her patriotic passions to create Of Thee I Sing: American Heritage Through Song. This exciting new solo touring company will feature educational, interactive concert programming which focuses on:


  • The music that helped to shape important events from American history


  • America's most important composers and the music that is their priceless contribution to our national identity and heritage 


  • The folksongs that form the basis of our country's unique musical culture.

Programming for children, families, and adults will be offered in schools, libraries, historical societies, and other community venues with the mission of bringing people together to learn about our history through music as well as to cultivate a deeper, shared patriotic pride through the experience of live performances of the music of our nation.


Ours is a rich and multi-faceted culture, and nowhere is this more apparent than in our musical heritage!


In addition to the program's inaugural concert, We've Come a Long Way, Ladies!: A Centennial Celebration of the 19th Amendment, other concerts featuring major events of American History are to follow, including:


  • The American Revolutionary War


  • The American Civil War


  • American Immigration: Ellis Island 




Concerts focused on the roots and development of America's musical sound and style will include:


  • American Hymns and Spirituals


  • American Folk Song



Concerts on American composers will feature:


  • Ned Rorem, especially his settings of Walt Whitman


  • Aaron Copland, especially his settings of Emily Dickinson and arrangements of Old American Songs
