Remarkable interpretive ability has made AUDREY JOHNSON a standout and audience favorite in operatic endeavors requiring personality and verve. Her portrayals of Cherubino, Dorabella, Zerlina, and Humperdinck's Hansel have had lasting effect to all listeners.

 

Included within Ms. Johnson’s repertoire are in-depth “Broadway” experiences, highlighted by Fantine (Les Miserables), Carrie Pipperidge (Carousel), Dot (Sunday in the Park with George), Lalume (Kismet), and epitomized by her stellar rendition of 100 Easy Ways to Lose a Man (Bernstein's Wonderful Town). 

 

Recorded and representative repertoire includes: Hansel,  Komponist, Dorabella, Romeo, Rosina, and Cherubino. The most recent CD of Ms. Johnson’s operatic endeavors has been made available through the Sanfilippo Foundation Place de la Musique. 

 

While recently garnering critical success for operatic performances, Ms. Johnson has also enjoyed acclaim for symphonic and concert appearances … to represent: the Beethoven Mass in C, the Mozart C Minor Mass, the Bach St Matthew Passion, and Handel’s Messiah.

 

Contemporary composers Lorne Dechtenberg and Ronald William Hill have written specific works for Ms. Johnson: the role of Louise Whitt in the opera, Sutures and Love and the song, Red Dress,  respectively.

 

Ms. Johnson was a founding member of the chamber group, Session Seven New Music Ensemble, which focused on the perpetuation and support of the works of living American composers.  The group performed in Houston, Texas to great praise, particularly for André Previn’s work, The Giraffes go to Hamburg, another signature piece of Ms. Johnson’s repertoire.
